Bousson, “Lago Nero” Area

In Summer: On Foot or by Mountain Bike
In summer, Capanna Mautino can be reached on foot from the village of Bousson by following the forest road toward Lago Nero. Before reaching the “Santa Giulia” colony, take the forestry path to the left, which crosses meadows and then a forest, leading to Grange Dalma. Follow the signs for Lago Nero/Capanna Mautino. You will intersect the forest road from Bousson at about 2,000 meters altitude. Walk along it for a few hundred meters, then return to the trail, which leads to the refuge through a sparser forest (about 2 hours).
In Winter: With Snowshoes or Skis
In winter, Capanna Mautino is accessible only on foot, with skis, or snowshoes.
Starting from Bousson, there are two options:
- Follow the groomed trail (which coincides with the summer dirt road, with a 680-meter elevation gain and about 7 km distance).
- Follow route no. 5 “Bousson – Capanna Mautino,” marked on the boards of the “Snowshoeing Planet.” Park along the Thuras stream. From here, take the uphill trail marked with a red diamond. Shortly after, you’ll reach the ruined houses of Bonne Maison, then Grange Dalma. Continue until you reach the Madonna del Lago Nero Chapel, the Taurinense Alpine Brigade barracks, and Lago Nero. Just beyond, you’ll arrive at the Capanna Mautino refuge (elevation gain: 680 meters; distance: about 5 km).
Alternatively, you can take the ski lifts from Cesana, descend to Sagnalonga, and follow the groomed trail to the refuge (minimal elevation gain and about 4.5 km distance).
